Dr. Andrew Gelfand
Dr. Andrew Gelfand graduated with high honors from the University of Texas, Austin in 1986. After obtaining his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, in 1990, he completed his pediatric residency at Texas Children's Hospital and Ben Taub hospital, both associated with Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Gelfand went on to fulfill his pediatric pulmonary fellowship at The Children's Hospital of Denver and National Jewish Medical and Research Center, which are both associated with the University of Colorado Health Science Center. After completing his fellowship in June of 1996, Dr. Gelfand moved to Dallas and founded Pediatric Pulmonary Specialists in August of 1996.
Dr. Gelfand enjoys many facets of working with children with pulmonary related issues. However, he has a special interest in the care and treatment of asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis and patients who require mechanical ventilation to breathe.
Dr. Gelfand has served as Medical Director of the ventilation unit at Our Children's House at Baylor since 1996 and Medical Director of the entire facility since 2003. He is a member of the clinical faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Working with the residents at Children's Medical Center, is a passion of his. He has received the outstanding community practitioner teaching award from the residents on five occasions.
He became board certified in pediatrics in 1993 and in Pediatric Pulmonary in 1998. Dr. Gelfand is currently a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been a member of the executive committee for the sub-board of pulmonary since 2004. His professional memberships include the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the Texas Medical Association and Dallas County Medical Society. Dr. Gelfand has also been featured in D Magazine and received recognition in the Metropolitan Who's Who.
Dr. Gelfand resides in Plano with his wife, Donna, and four children, Jarod, Rikki, Kayla and Katie. He has extended family, including parents, Sandy and Charlie in the area. He grew up in New York with a love for the Dallas Cowboys and the Jets. His passion for the Cowboys has been equaled or surpassed by the Dallas Mavericks. He enjoys golfing, swimming, and skiing as well as just enjoying time with his family.
